A post from Tunu Sodhi, English Language Specialist, English Language Support for Faculty
In November, I started a Conversation Group for internationally trained faculty who want to practice their conversation skills. I had originally decided to postpone this for April, thinking faculty would be too busy to participate. However, this did not sit well with the faculty. They wanted to continue it throughout without a break. Therefore, starting this Friday, April 11th, the Conversation Group will resume from 2:30-3:30 in JOR 943.
The gist of the program is this: if you are an internationally trained faculty member, you know you don’t have many opportunities to practice English outside of work. You usually speak your native language at home. This gives you an opportunity to practice English with other non-native speakers. This includes speaking, listening and improving your vocabulary. In addition, we have found that this is a great way to network with faculty members that you would not usually have a chance to meet. It’s an all-around win.
