A post from Tunu Sodhi, English Language Specialist, LTO:
After breaking for the summer, the Faculty English Conversation Group will be re-starting on Friday, September 26 at 11:00 am. We will be meeting in Room KHS 363B. The rationale behind the English Conversation Group is for you to have a chance to practice your spoken English.
One of the challenges for internationally trained faculty is that you have nowhere outside of the class to practice their English. For the most part, when you go home you speak your native language. The question arises as to where you get the chance to practice your spoken English. This is the forum for you.
This is not a chat group. In the past, I have introduced idioms, collocations and phrasal verbs. This proved to be useful as it helped the faculty inside the classroom and out. Let’s face it. When you receive information like this, it gives you a better understanding of greater Canadian culture and it allows you to speak in a less formal and, therefore, more relaxed way.
This is one of the programs that we offer here in Faculty English Language Support. Please click on the links below for more programs offered through this program and the Learning and Teaching Office.
